Privacy policy
Last updated: 21 October 2026
In short:
- Your jars, entries, bills and notes stay on your phone. You don't need an account.
- If you log in, we keep encrypted backup copies of your data so you can restore it. They are not end-to-end encrypted.
- We never sell your data, never show it to advertisers, and use no analytics or tracking tools.
- You can delete your account and all its backups in the app at any time.
Who we are
JarMoney is a money app made by an independent developer in Malaysia (“we”). This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and the choices you have. It covers the JarMoney app for Android and iOS and this website.
Data that stays on your phone
Everything you enter in JarMoney (jars, income, expenses, bills, investments, notes, reminders and settings) is stored only on your phone, in an encrypted database. We can't see it. If you turn on app lock, your PIN is kept in your phone's secure storage.
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Template share codes contain your jar names, percentages, icons and colours, never amounts or entries, and they are only shared when you choose to share them.
If you log in (optional)
Logging in is only needed for backup. You log in with your email address and a one-time code we email you.
| What | Why | Where and how long |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address and account ID | To send your sign-in codes and keep your backups apart from everyone else's | Until you delete your account |
| Backups: a compressed copy of all your JarMoney data, including amounts and notes | So you can restore your data on a new phone or after a reset. Backups run weekly on Wi-Fi, or when you tap “Back up now” | The latest 5 backups are kept; older ones are deleted automatically. All are deleted when you delete your account |
Accounts and backups are stored by our hosting provider, Supabase, on servers in Singapore. Backups are encrypted while stored and sent over encrypted connections, and only your account can read them through the app. They are not end-to-end encrypted: in exceptional cases, such as a legal requirement, the provider or we could technically access them. A backup password is planned for a later version.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Sentry so we can fix the problem. A report contains the type of error, where in the app's code it happened, the app version, your phone's model and operating system version. Before a report leaves your phone, the app removes error messages and anything else that could contain what you typed, your name or your phone's name. Reports never contain amounts, notes or jar names, and Sentry is set not to store IP addresses. Reports are kept for up to 90 days.
Settings and money tips from our server
The app downloads money tips (such as tax dates) and app settings from our server about twice a day when you're online. These downloads don't include anything about you. Like any server, ours sees your IP address while it answers.
Ads (free version)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads never receive your budget data. In the European Economic Area and the UK, Google's consent form asks whether ads may be personalised; on iPhone, Apple asks whether apps may track you. If you agree, Google may use your phone's advertising ID to show personalised ads. If you don't, you see non-personalised ads, which still use limited data such as your approximate location and device type. You can change your choice in the app's settings or your phone's settings.
Remove-ads subscription
The remove-ads subscription is bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play, which handle payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active, using an anonymous ID and your purchase receipt. We store only whether your account is ad-free.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your data.
- We don't share your budget data with advertisers or anyone else.
- We don't use analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- We don't use AI to process your data.
Your choices and rights
- Use it without an account. Everything except backup works offline and without logging in.
- Export your data. Settings › Export data (CSV) saves all your entries to a file you control.
- Delete your account. Settings › Account & backup › Delete account deletes your account and every backup straight away. You can also erase the data on your phone at the same time.
- Access and correction. Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010, and the GDPR if you are in the EEA or UK, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us and we will reply within 21 days.
Children
JarMoney is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Your data on the phone is in an encrypted database, and you can add a PIN or fingerprint lock. Online, each account can reach only its own backups, and all connections are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. For important changes we will also tell you in the app.
